Seminar "Salamanca and Coimbra Schools of the 16th Century: Unknown Pages in the History of World Economic Thought"

Anton Afanasyev (CEMI RAS, FU) presented the paper "Salamanca and Coimbra Schools of the 16th Century: Unknown Pages in the History of World Economic Thought" on November 16, 2023.

Abstract:

The paper studies the economic doctrines little known in Russia. These ideas in price theory (microeconomics) and money theory (macroeconomics) belong to representatives of the Salamanca and Coimbra schools of the 16th century. I demonstrate that many modern economic theories have their origins in the works of Spanish and Portuguese theologians and professors of the 16th century. I present a systematic literature review of the topic as well as the original results.
