A Warm Welcome from Africa: HSE International Olympiad Reaches Students in Ghana
HSE alumnus Micah Zing presents academic opportunities for international students — including the renowned Faculty of Economic Sciences!
In March 2025, HSE University alumnus Micah Zing, with the support of the office of the International Admission and Talent Development, embarked on an extensive outreach and awareness trip across the Republic of Ghana. The primary goal of the visit was to introduce educational opportunities at HSE University and register candidates for the upcoming HSE International Olympiad, scheduled for November 2025.

The tour covered key regions of the country — Greater Accra, Kumasi, and Bono East — and included visits to several leading educational institutions, such as the University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), technical institutes, and senior secondary schools.

The initiative began on March 11 with a visit to the Parliament of Ghana, where Zing met with high-ranking officials, including the Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu. The Minister expressed strong interest in extending the program to Ghana's northern regions, emphasizing the critical need for educational opportunities there. The initiative also received support from ministers in charge of special initiatives and social protection.
Throughout the meetings held at universities and colleges, Micah Zing gave detailed presentations about HSE University — its academic programs, scholarships, admission procedures, and student life in Russia. Special attention was given to the International Olympiad, which serves as a gateway to fully funded undergraduate studies at HSE. Among the most in-demand fields presented was the Faculty of Economic Sciences, widely recognized for its excellence.

One of the highlights of the tour was the vibrant session at the prestigious Prempeh College in Kumasi. Over 800 students participated in a presentation and Olympiad-themed quiz, with winners receiving certificates and prizes. Several top performers from the previous year’s Olympiad were officially awarded scholarship packages and admissions offers from HSE University.

Partner universities also showed strong interest in future collaborations. The leadership of Valley View University in Accra discussed prospects for joint academic initiatives, including student exchange programs and collaborative research projects.

The trip concluded on March 15 at Nkronza Technical Institute in the Bono East Region, where over 1,000 students from six schools gathered to learn about HSE. As with the previous events, students actively engaged with the content and registered for the upcoming Olympiad.

This initiative served as a powerful platform for promoting Russian higher education abroad and fostering meaningful academic connections between HSE University and Ghana’s educational institutions. According to the organizers, such events not only enhance the university’s global visibility but also inspire talented young individuals to pursue their academic dreams on the international stage.
