"The Hospitality was Extraordinary – It Truly Touched the Soul!": The Visit of the HSE University Delegation to the Economics and Management School at Wuhan University

On October 23–24, 2025, researchers from the Faculty of Economic Sciences and the International College of Economics and Finance participated in the First Wuhan University–Higher School of Economics (WHU–HSE) Joint Workshop on Applied Economics.

The workshop featured presentations from nine HSE researchers, including Anastasia Antsygina (FES), Runjie Geng (ICEF), Ekaterina Kazakova (FES), Madina Karamysheva (FES), Dmitry Makarov (ICEF), Tatiana Mayskaya (ICEF and FES), Maxim Nikitin (ICEF), Soubhagya Sahoo (FES), and Anna Yurko (ICEF). Their papers covered a wide range of theoretical and applied topics on economic analysis.

The close research collaboration between HSE University and Wuhan University began in 2024 when Professor Shihe Fu (Economics and Management School, Wuhan University) first attended the Sixth ICEF International Conference on Applied Economics. It continued in 2025 when Professors Jindong Pang and Hao Geng (Economics and Management School, Wuhan University) presented their papers at the Seventh ICEF International Conference on Applied Economics. The visit of the ICEF and FES delegation to Wuhan became a logical next step in a growing research partnership between the two universities.

During the visit, Anastasia Antsygina (FES) and Maxim Nikitin (ICEF) met with Professor Jun Nie, Dean of the Economics and Management School, and Professor Li Bin. They presented their respective faculties and discussed promising areas for future cooperation, such as academic exchange programmes, joint conferences, workshops, and research projects.
Deputy Dean for International Affairs
The visit of the ICEF and FES delegation to Wuhan was an important step in developing our partnership with Wuhan University. The workshop allowed us and our Chinese colleagues not only to get to know each other better and learn about each side's research interests more but also strengthened our intention to actively develop joint projects, including those involving graduate and Ph.D. students from both institutions.

Assistant Professor
The hospitality was extraordinary – it truly touched the soul! The presentations were incredibly interesting, and the comments and discussions were both useful and productive. It was also great to see active participation not only from professors but also from students at Wuhan University. This was my third academic visit to China, and each time the country reveals itself from a new perspective. I look forward to our continued fruitful cooperation with Wuhan University!
