PhD Student from China Begins Research Internship at the Laboratory for Spatial Econometric Modeling of Socio-Economic Processes in Russsia
Tang Li, a PhD student from Shanghai University, has started her research internship at the Laboratory for Spatial Econometric Modeling of Socio-Economic Processes in Russia. Her work focuses on carbon issues, low-carbon transition, and regional inequality.
Tang Li, a PhD candidate at Shanghai University majoring in Industrial Economics, has joined the Laboratory for Spatial Econometric Modeling of Socio-Economic Processes in Russia for a research internship. Notably, her first day at the laboratory coincided with the celebration of the Chinese New Year.
Her research interests include carbon emissions, low-carbon development, environmental economics, and green growth strategies. During her internship, she plans to explore the spatial distribution of the “carbon burden” across Russian regions, including major resource-producing territories (such as oil and coal regions) and affluent consumption centers.
The project aims to examine whether the carbon burden is shared fairly between production-based and consumption-based regions, to identify possible carbon transfer pathways, and to assess the potential socio-economic effects of existing and proposed low-carbon policies in Russia, including carbon taxation and ESG-related initiatives. Particular attention will be paid to the risk of increasing regional inequality.
The internship is expected to contribute to the development of a conceptual framework for assessing “regional carbon equity” adapted to Russia’s national context. The findings may also provide useful insights for related research in China.
