Laboratory for Geometric Algebra and Applications in Moscow, Russia, invites applications for postdoctoral research positions in the field of geometric algebras, Clifford algebras, quaternions, and their applications.
 

Requirements

The general requirements for the postdoctoral fellowship positions are the following:

• Candidates must hold a recent PhD in the field of mathematics or related areas which was awarded over the last 5 years or received before starting work at HSE in a relevant field by an internationally recognized university and has been assessed by external reviewers as having the potential to pursue research that is publishable in leading peer-reviewed journals;
• Candidates should have a strong background in linear algebra, geometric algebras, Clifford algebras, and ability to work in team and conduct research.
• Fluent English is an obligatory condition as research and other activities are conducted in English. Knowledge of Russian is not required;
• Relevant experience will be an asset although not required.

The position involves:

• working under the direct supervision of laboratory head Dmitry Shirokov;
• participants are encouraged to pursue their own research along with working on Laboratory for Geometric Algebra and Applications research projects such as:

o  Quaternions, geometric algebras, and applications
o  Algebraic and geometric methods in field theory and other applications

• writing research papers for international peer-reviewed journals in co-authorship with the members of the Lab;
• participation in the events of the Lab and other contribution to the Lab’s development;
• public presentations of candidate’s own research to the academic community;
• some teaching is encouraged, though not required.

Conditions

Appointments are made for one year. Postdoctoral fellows have high opportunity of renewal of the contract (no more than two times) in case of outstanding performance.

HSE University offers postdoctoral fellows a competitive salary, the standard medical insurance plan; a working space equipped with a computer and free Internet access at the University.

As part of the HSE University Russian Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme, a position is now open for a Russian postdoctoral researcher (scientific staff member) at the Laboratory for Geometric Algebra and Applications.

The fellowship is for one year, with the possibility of extension for a second year. The project is set to begin on September 1, 2025. Applications must be submitted by May 16, 2025.

Project Title: Geometric Algebras and Applications

Project Goal: The goal of the project is to develop new algebraic, geometric, and computational methods related to geometric algebras (Clifford algebras, quaternions), and to apply these methods in various domains such as physics, computer science, machine learning, geometry, economics, engineering, and beyond.

The specific research focus will be determined in alignment with the postdoc’s interests and previous academic experience.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Under 39 years of age.
• Russian citizenship or foreign citizenship with a degree earned in Russia.
• Academic degree (Candidate of Sciences, PhD, or successful PhD thesis defense).
• Research experience in the relevant or related fields.
• Ability to see research projects through to completion.

Responsibilities:

• Produce original scientific results and prepare them for publication.
• Present results at Russian and international conferences.
• Actively participate in laboratory seminar, both as a presenter and attendee.
• Optionally: teaching and supervising HSE students.
