HSE University has improved its position in the QS institutional ranking by 21 places this year, taking 7th place among Russian universities. The advancement comes thanks to a significant improvement in academic reputation and assessment of university graduates by employers.

The previous conference took place five years ago, in 2014, and the university has changed a lot since then. The HSE Academic Council announced that Sergey Pekarski, Head of the Department of Theoretical Economics, will take over as  Dean of Faculty from Oleg Zamulin, who will join Sberbank’s Centre of Macroeconomic Research as Director. Professor Zamulin will retain his position of  professor at the faculty and continue teaching.

Large online courses will become even more popular since the quality and accessibility of education is rising. They will not, however, replace traditional in-person interactions between student and teacher. This was the conclusion of participants in the eSTARS 2018 international academic conference on the present and future of online education. HSE and the online learning platform Coursera teamed up to host the event in Moscow on December 5-6.
