The working paper by Inna Zaytseva and Daniil Shaposhnikov is published
In a series of working papers of the Basic Research Program preprints, the paper by our colleagues was published on a comparative assessment of the defensive and attacking actions of football players.
In their paper, Inna Zaitseva and Daniil Shaposhnikov from LSS study the comparative contribution of offensive and defensive actions of football players to the final result of the team. It turns out that the contribution of defensive actions to the final result is significantly underestimated by the market. It is reflected in the lower transfer cost of strong defenders relatively to the expected level. It may encourage the team to think about redistributing funds from offense to defense.
