Ekaterina Kulinicheva's paper about sneakerheads is published in Transformative Work and Cultures
Congratulations to Ekaterina on her new publication!
The academic journal Transformative Works and Cultures (No. 36, 2021) published an article "Sneakerheads as Fans and Sneaker Fandom as Participatory Culture" by Ekaterina Kulinicheva, a junior research fellow of LSS. The article offers a new perspective for the study of the community of collectors and enthusiasts of sneakers - to consider them as a fandom and a culture of complicity (participatory culture) and describes the intangible dimension of this cultural scene: the accumulation and dissemination of knowledge, the struggle for their own cultural hierarchies, fan art, etc. The article suggests applying the same perspective to other communities of enthusiasts that have arisen around material objects of mass production. The author conceptualizes such communities as object-inspired fandoms.
