Семинар НУЛ пространственно-эконометрического моделирования социально-экономических процессов в России

19 декабря состоялся научный семинар Научно-учебной лаборатории пространственно-эконометрического моделирования социально-экономических процессов в России.

«Shifting Realities: the Unintended Consequences of Sanctions Against Russia on the Finnish Economy».

Аннотация
Finland's historically close economic relationship with Russia, characterized by geographical proximity and decades of collaboration, has been significantly disrupted by imposition of unprecedented sanctions against Russia. This study examines the impact of these sanctions on Finland's economy, addressing a gap in existing literature that mostly focus on the target countries, rather than the sanctioning countries themselves.  We employ the Synthetic Control Method (SCM) proposed and advanced by Abadie (2021) to estimate a counterfactual scenario, meaning Finland's economic trajectory in the absence of sanctioning Russia. The synthetic control model reveals a significant negative impact on the Finnish economy, a predicted average loss of 8% in GDP per capita.
