I Admire the Level of Exigency Here

Araceli Gutierrez Ardaya and Jonibek Isomiddinov, both international students studing economics at the faculty of economic sciences, discuss Araceli's experience at HSE

My name is Araceli. I am from Bolivia, and I am currently studying on the 3 rd year of my bachelor program Economics in the Faculty of Economic Sciences.

How did you choose your program and HSE?

I always liked the idea of studying economics, so when I had time I started to search for the brand universities in that field in Russia. And well, I found HSE, then I applied, and as you may see, I got accepted.

What do you like and dislike at HSE?

I really like this university. I love a lot of things here, but mostly what I admire is the level of exigency that it has. That it pushes you to try further every time, make you be better every day, be better students and professionals in the field.

As an international student, did you face any difficulties?

I suppose, due to the disadvantage of not properly knowing the Russian language, was a type of difficulty as for being inferior at the beginning. I also like here that we can have elective courses.

What courses did you take?

For example, last year I took a challenging course that I really liked, it was the Discrete Models of Economics . From the courses that I chose this year, there is one that I find pretty interesting - Public Economics . We also have the opportunity to choose a minor: to choose a course that is not in your faculty. That helps you to expand your horizons, to open your mind in lot of fields, and it is pretty interesting.

Would you recommend HSE to other students and why?

I personally think that it is a big opportunity to be here

Araceli Gutierrez Ardaya
third year student of the undergraduate programme Economics

Well, I surely recommend to apply for studying in this university. I personally think that it is a big opportunity to be here.  For prospective foreign students in the faculty of economic sciences, I can advise you to prepare mentally that you are coming to this university, the one with high level of exigency; you need to be aware that it is a different country, different culture and a different system. You may not expect the same result as in your hometown. However, of course, remember, if you got here, if you were capable of that, then you can overcome that extra challenge.

Last spring Araceli recorded a short video about her experience in Moscow at HSE
