Photo Exhibition Opens at Shabolovka Campus
Twelve photographs of Moscow landmarks and skyline made in summer by Johnson Chow Chun Shing, an intern at the Faculty of Economic Sciences, are currently on display at Shabolvoka building. Participants of the Autumn School "Modern Trends in Decision Theory" were invited to the gala opening and were the first guests of the exhibition. The Faculty of Economic Sciences' Dean, Oleg Zamulin welcomed the guests, and, together with the International Laboratory of Decision Choice and Analysis Head Professor Fuad Aleskerov cut the ribbon to open the exhibition.
Johnson Chow Chun Shing is an undergraduate student at the Faculty of Sociology of the University of Hong Kong (HKU). In summer 2018, he studied Russian language at the intensive programme led by Olga Eremina at HSE in Moscow. Prior to his arrival to Moscow, he expressed his interest in an internship, and the International office of the Faculty of Economic Sciences readily accommodated his request. The goal of international student's internships is to contribute to developing a new look for the information packs and the overall image of the Faculty of Economic Sciences' programmes and opportunities. During his two-month summer internship, Johnson created leaflets and a booklet for undergraduate and graduate programmes in Chinese and attended many events for cultural immersion. However Johnson's talent undoubtedly lies in the field of photography.
A small exhibition on the 2nd floor of the fifth building of the Shabolovka campus presents iconic views (most times with a twist) of Moscow in summer at different times of the day - the Bolshoi Theater at night, VDNH and Victory Park at sunset, the Moscow River during the day. Since the exhibition opened at the first day of the Autumn School “Modern trends in decision theory”, it allowed the staff of DeCAN, students from HSE campus in St. Petersburg, scholars and graduate students from Germany, India, Slovakia and France to admire the summer views of Moscow.
During a short welcome greeting, Dean of the Faculty of Economic Sciences Oleg Zamulin talked about the background of the exhibition - from Johnson Chow Chun Shing studying Russian and interning at the Faculty of Economic Sciences, to the idea of holding a photo exhibition; he emphasized the importance of personal contacts and networking in modern science and expressed the hope that such events will continue in the future.
While Johnson is about to complete his undergraduate degree in Hong Kong, his photographs and bright, summer Moscow illuminate the Shabolovka campus. You can check his instagram for more photos from around the world.
The Faculty of Economic Sciences is grateful to Johnson Chow Chun Shing for the photographs and opportunity to display them at Shabolovka Campus.
