This celebration of the long-standing relationship between HSE and Erasmus University of Rotterdam is an exciting event. I was lucky enough to graduate from both: many years ago from the former, and not so many years ago from the latter. Some time ago I received an excellent opportunity first to become a research master's student at Tinbergen Institute, and then to continue my studies as a PhD student in the Department of Economics at Erasmus University. Those years I spent in Rotterdam and the Netherlands played, I would say, a central role in shaping my professional life and the way I see the world now. It was luck and a privilege to be a part of the Department of Economics, and it was a pleasure to spend those years there.

As I grew older, I realized that these excellent opportunities are very rare. And that they do not come from nowhere. These rare opportunities are a result of the daily contributions of many people doing their job exceptionally well. That’s why I would like to thank all my professors, all the staff members, my former colleagues, and my fellow students for providing this highly professional, motivating, and friendly atmosphere I enjoyed when I was a part of the Department of Economics at Erasmus University. I hope that both schools will keep climbing higher and higher towards the very top of the profession.
