Participants of the 4th Fall into ML conference at HSE University held a discussion titled ‘Academia in Crisis: What Does the Future Hold?’ In particular, they examined why the number of scientific publications continues to grow, what the quality of these papers is, what expectations should be placed on researchers, and what role artificial intelligence plays in preparing academic articles.

The first Intervision song contest recently came to an end in Moscow. The winner was the Vietnamese entrant, Đức Phúc. The voting system for the contest was developed by Fuad Aleskerov, a renowned mathematician, expert in game theory and decision-making, and Distinguished Professor at HSE University. The annual Student Research Paper Competition (SRPC) offers students the chance to showcase their work, such as term papers or theses. It is a valuable opportunity to receive expert feedback and recommendations aimed at improving research, as well as to take the first steps in an academic career. Below we outline the key features and deadlines for submitting entries.

The future is now more difficult for researchers to forecast, and events that are hard to predict are playing an increasingly significant role. But there is good news too: scientists are confident that humanity will adapt to any changes. This was the focus of discussion at the International Symposium ‘Foresight in a Rapidly Changing World,’ which took place as part of the 25th Yasin (April) International Academic Conference.

Sergey Dubinin, former head of the Bank of Russia and Professor of Finance and Credit at the Faculty of Economics at Moscow State University, has delivered an honorary address at the XXV Yasin (April) International Academic Conference. He spoke about the transformation of the global monetary and financial system, as well as the Russian economy.

On October 28–30, 2024, the autumn school ‘Advances in Decision Analysis’ took place at HSE University, organised by the HSE International Centre of Decision Choice and Analysis. Among its speakers were prominent Russian and international researchers, including Nobel laureate in Economics and centre member Eric Maskin. Professor Fuad Aleskerov, head of the Centre and of the Department of Mathematics at the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences, shared insights about the school.

We are happy to announce that the Laboratory for Banking Studies (LaBS HSE) organizes the 13^th Annual LaBS Banking Workshop "Banking in Emerging Markets: Challenges and Opportunities".  The workshop will be held on Friday, November 1^st , 2024, at the HSE University, Moscow and online. Submission deadline is September 10^th , 2024.

Celebrating its 15th anniversary, HSE International Centre of Decision Choice and Analysis invites scholars, PhD, master and undergraduate students from junior and senior years to apply for participation in international autumn school dedicated to decision choice theory, and other issues related to the application of modern applied mathematics in economics.

At the plenary session of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), Russian President Vladimir Putin participated alongside the Presidents of Bolivia and Zimbabwe, Luis Alberto Arce Catacora and Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa. For the first time, a representative from HSE University—Sergey Karaganov, Academic Supervisor of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs and HSE’s distinguished professor—served as the moderator of the plenary session.

On Wednesday, May 15 the scientific seminar of the International Centre of Decision Choice and Analysis was held. Professor Maskin gave a lecture on "Why Globalization Has Failed to Reduce Inequality?"
