How HSE Can Help With Your Rent

For the third year in a row, HSE will continue to provide financial assistance to students who move out of the student dormitories and rent an apartment. This year, the number of students who will receive assistance will increase to 1000. The monthly payment will be 10000 rubles over the period from 01.09.2018 to 30.06.2019.

Maksim Vavulin, third-year student in the HSE/NES Programme in Economics, has won a major chess competition in Katowice (Poland).

Time to Nominate: 9th HSE Alumni Awards

The 2017 HSE Alumni Awards will shortly be open for nominations. The awards were founded in 2007 to recognise HSE graduates who have achieved professional success in the corporate sphere or their own businesses. Over the years, the winners have included Maxim Oreshkin, Russian Minister of Economic Development, Ilya Azar and Tonia Samsonova, journalists, Ksenia Mokrushina, Director of the Centre of Urban Studies at Skolkovo Moscow School of Management, and Vladimir Potapov, CEO at VTB Capital, among others.

François Guillemin – Seeking Adventure while Engaging in Serious Research

In deciding to join HSE as a post-doc fellow in the Center for Institutional Studies), François Guillemin sought to combine a sense of adventure with a post-doctoral experience that would allow him to continue his research in the field of banking regulation. HSE ended up on the top of his list, and he accepted an offer to start this September.

‘Nowhere Have I Enjoyed Teaching More Than in Russia’

On July 24, the results of the Best Teachers 2017 competition at HSE were announced, with more than 500 teachers from across the university being recognized by students, 80% of whom voted in this year’s competition. While the financial reward for recognition is certainly attractive, the teachers who won appreciated the support of students, as well as the opportunity to reflect on their careers and what has made them successful.

In May 2017, representatives of the International Students’ Association Council were elected to the HSE Student Council for the first time. They will serve until February 2018 when a new election will take place. The International Student Association Council (or International Student Council for short) currently consists of five students from CIS and Baltic countries, and three students from other countries.

First Ever Monument to Anonymous Peer Reviewer Unveiled at HSE

The concrete block in the courtyard of the HSE Institute of Education has been a lasting image of the WW2 era. However, last summer, the institute’s staff came up with the idea of turning it into a piece of art. The idea was put forth by Igor Chirikov, Director of theCentre of Sociology of Higher Education, whereby this useless piece of concrete would be transformed into a monument to the ‘anonymous peer reviewer’. Moreover, this idea ended up garnering the most support as a result of an internal vote.

New Assistant Professor Tatyana Mayskaya Joins the Faculty

Tatyana Mayskaya was hired at the Faculty (jointly with ICEF) under the international recruitment procedure.
