Cemal Eren Arbatlı, assistant professor at the Department of Theoretical Economics, has won the Armen Alchian award!

His joint paper with Güneş Gökmen (NES) entitled "Minorities and Long-Run Development: Persistence of Armenian and Greek Influence in Turkey" has won the best general interest paper award at the Armenian Economic Association annual conference.
The paper offers empirical evidence that Armenian and Greek communities in the Ottoman Empire left a positive and persistent trace on regional development in Turkey and explores potential channels of this minority influence.

The award is named after Armen A. Alchian, a UCLA economist known for groundbreaking research on the employee-employer relationship, the hidden inefficiencies of governmental regulation, and the forces that determine the success of firms. He passed away in 2013.

The award has been announced by the Armenian Economic Association at the 2016 annual meetings hosted by Yerevan State University (YSU), the International Center for Agribusiness Research and Education (ICARE), and the American University of Armenia (AUA) on June 17-19, 2016.

Congratulations !
