HSE took first place among Russian universities in subject rankings for Sociology and Economics & Econometrics (101-150 globally). In Business & Management Studies, HSE ranked first and is currently the only Russian university in the ranking, placing in the 151-200 group.

On March 18^th and 19^th, the Council on Enhancing the Competitiveness of Russia’s Leading Universities met in Moscow to discuss Russia’s role on the world academic stage. As a result, the Council recommended that the Ministry of Education and Science allocate subsidies to three groups of universities in 2016. HSE made it into the first group.

HSE lecturers and research fellows who plan to teach open optional courses and/or elective (MAGOLEGO) courses during the 2016/2017 academic year can submit applications until February 15.

This year several students from University of Texas at Austin came to HSE’s Faculty of Economic Sciences for study abroad experience and to do internships as teaching assistants at HSE and as consultants at the Merrill Lynch Writing and Communication Center at the New Economic School. HSE and NES jointly run a bachelor’s programme in Economics. American students share their impressions of Moscow and working at HSE.

The Faculty of Economics is ranked third in Russia and in top 10% globally in RePec April rankings of the best Economics institutions. HSE itself is ranked first in Russia and 151st globally. HSE is also in the 5% of best institutions in the world in the field of Economics. Other HSE departments recognized by the ranking are HSE St Petersburg, which comes third on the list of the best Economics Institutions in Russia and is in the top 10% of Economics Institutions worldwide and  The Centre for Market Studies and Spatial Economics which is also in the top 10% globally.

619 HSE students entered the Jaguar Game Changer Business case competition. It is the first event of this kind organised as part of HSE’s cooperation with Jaguar Land Rover.     

HSE has entered the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2015 in the top 51-100 in Development Studies, and is the only Russian university in this category.

This year, 14 students and graduates of HSE's Faculty of Economics were admitted to PhD programmes at leading universities in the U.S. This is particularly noteworthy because nine of these students are seniors and graduates of HSE’s joint undergraduate programme with the New Economic School (NES) and of HSE’s undergraduate economics programme.

McKinsey Business Diving is one of the biggest business case solving competitions in Russia. This year it had 2700 student entries from 181 HEIs across the country. HSE students Evgenia Deusheva and Mark Shchetinin were on the winning team.
