The Faculty of Economic Sciences is pleased to welcome back James Tremewan, Associate Professor in the Department of Theoretical Economics, hired by the faculty under HSE University international recruitment procedure.

The HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences summarised the results of its traditional prediction contest. FES holds this contest annually on the eve of Nobel Week. This year, the contest once again attracted participants from different regions of Russia and countries around the world. Remarkably, one participant managed to predict all three laureates of the 2024 Economics Prize — Daron Acemoglu, Simon Johnson and James Robinson.

During a recent online meeting organised by the International Office of the Faculty of Economic Sciences, students and graduates of HSE University shared their experiences of adapting to life in Moscow. They highlighted key aspects of living in the capital and the distinctive features of the academic environment at the university

Alena Podaneva graduated from the Faculty of World Economy and World Politics, Master's Degree in Financial Engineering, Master's Degree in Quantitative Methods in Finance and Economics from the University of Luxembourg in 2019. This week she successfully defended her PhD thesis at the University of Luxembourg on the topic Public and private procurement of services in the healthcare sectorCongratulations!

Zaruhi Hakobyan, master’s graduate of the HSE University Faculty of Economic Sciences and research scientist at the University of Luxembourg, is involved not only in research but also in organising academic events for young scientists and students. As a foreign graduate of HSE University, Zaruhi was nominated for the HSE Alumni Awards ‘for her tireless enthusiasm in popularising economic science, teaching, and research at the international level’ and made the shortlist.

HSE University Faculty of Economic Sciences took an active part in International Partners’ Week, just finished at HSE. The week was attended by representatives of 23 countries, including the new partners of the Faculty of Economic Sciences - the University of Cape Coast and the University of Ghana. One of the purposes of the visit of representatives of Ghanaian universities was to sign the MOU’s with HSE University. Agreements will enable academic and cultural cooperation between universities, as well as establish academic exchanges.

This year, Angelina Yudina graduated from the Bachelor’s in Business Informatics at HSE University and enrolled in the Master’s in Economics and Economic Policy. She has also worked as a research assistant at the International Centre of Decision Choice and Analysis since May 2021. In her interview, Angelina spoke about her role and responsibilities as a research intern, the personal and professional skills she has developed, and her plans for the future.

Behrang Kamali-Shahdadi, from Iran, recently joined the HSE University Department of Theoretical Economics as an assistant professor and will start teaching courses in autumn 2023. In his interview, he shares his experiences of getting a PhD from an Ivy League university, working at a new university in Iran, and his research on matching attorneys to poor defendants, unskilled workers to firms, and baby boomers to universities.

Gao Song from China, master student at HSE Financial Engineering Program, applied and was successfully admitted to study for a masters in Quantitative Economics and Finance at the University of Luxembourg during his second year of masters studies at HSE. Upon successful completion of both programs, he will be awarded a masters degree from both institutions. From the Fall 2023, Gao Song will start his PhD program as a Doctoral Researcher at the Parallel Computing and Optimization Group (PCOG) in the Computer Science Department at the University of Luxembourg
