Starting from the 2016-2017 academic year Faculty of Economic Sciences has launched a new international seminar series. The series host many established scholars as well as young promising economists from various respectable universities worldwide.

Anna Kozhina, a Research Assistant at HSE’s international Laboratory of Stochastic Analysis and its Applications, earned her PhD at Heidelberg University in Germany with highest distinction and earned an academic degree of the first category  from HSE’s new Dissertation Committee. This year Anna’s dissertation was awarded the Wilma-Moser prize, which recognizes the best work among female graduate students in the natural sciences. In an interview with HSE News Service, Anna discussed what made her fall in love with mathematics and how science keeps her on her toes.

The first plenary session of the HSE XX April International Academic Conference continued with a discussion on the sources of economic growth, budgetary policy priorities, as well as investment in infrastructure and human capital. Experts from HSE joined other participants to speak on these issues.

Prof. Dr Thomas Dohmen from the Institute for Applied Microeconomics, University of Bonn, Germany is to deliver an honorary lecture at the upcoming April Academic Conference at HSE University April 9 – 12. HSE News Service spoke with Dr. Dohmen about his work on the Global Preferences Survey (GPS), an international survey of epic proportions that he helped develop and analyze in order to learn whether individuals differ in terms of economic preferences by country, and more.

Vladimir Podolskii, Head of HSE’s Big Data and Information Retrieval School, and Elena Vakulenko, Assistant Professor at the Department of Applied Economics, have both received awards for research in mathematics and labour studies, respectively.

Tenured HSE Professor Fuad Aleskerov, who is the head of the Faculty of Economic Sciences’ Department of Mathematics, has become a member of the Informatics section of the Academia Europaea.

On November 5-6, the 15th EIASM Conference on “Corporate Governance” took place in Brussels. Representatives of more than 15 countries came to the capital of Belgium to present their research projects and discuss new trends in the field of corporate finance.

The Higher School of Economics has begun accepting works for its annual Student Research Paper Competition. Applications are due October 15 and can be submitted on the competition’s website.

The 1,000^th working paper, which came out this November, discusses how innovative companies in the U.S. fund projects. Its authors are Anastasia Stepanova and Maria Kokoreva, research fellows at the HSE Corporate Finance Center, and Kirill Povkh, first-year Master’s student in the Corporate Finance programme.
