Parisa Esmaeilkhani, from Iran, and Anshuman Sharma, from India, are currently studying in HSE University’s English-taught Master’s programmes. In an interview with HSE News Service, they talked about enrolling at HSE University, discovering Moscow, learning Russian, exploring the opportunities HSE University offers, and studying remotely during the pandemic.

In 2010, HSE University launched the Full-time Advanced Doctoral Programme, an innovative programme for doctoral students at that time. At the beginning of 2021, an alumna of the programme’s first cohort became the first programme graduate to earn her Doctor of Sciences degree: Elena Vakulenko, Assistant Professor at HSE University’s Faculty of Economic Sciences. In an interview with HSE News Service, the professor discussed her academic career.

Nargiz Mammadova, first-year Master's student of the Economics: Research Programme, chose HSE University based on the strength of its reputation and its placement in university rankings. In her interview, Nargiz talks about her passion for economics, her impressions of the programme, her career aspirations, and more.

The International Study Tour experience is currently accepting applications for February 2021. The programme is organized by the International Admissions team with the aim of giving international students an opportunity to get a glimpse of what studying at HSE University is like. Participants attend various classes in different fields of study. Last November, the programme was held online for the first time. The February round will also be held fully online, so students from all over the world can take part. Application deadline is February 8.

On January 14, at the 2021 Gaidar Forum, which was held at the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA), HSE University Rector Yaroslav Kuzminov and leaders of three other institutions signed an agreement to establish the Human Capital Multidisciplinary Research Center (HCMRC). The other co-signers were RANEPA Rector Vladimir Mau, MGIMO University Rector Anatoly Torkunov, and Dmitry Funk, Director of the N.N. Miklukho-Maclay Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The Center will focus on that key areas of human capital studies that are of current global importance.

Congratulations to Aleksei Smirnov, Assistant professor of the Department of Theoretical Economics, on the publication of his paper "Bad News Turned Good: Reversal under Censorship" in American Economic Journal: Microeconomics.
