Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed Maksim Oreshkin as the country’s new Minister of Economic Development. Oreshkin is the former Deputy Minister of Finance and a graduate of the Higher School of Economics.

From December 1 to 20, registration will be held for HSE’s Open Optional Courses, slated to start in the second half of the 2016/2017 academic year. Per tradition, these courses will be free of charge and open not only to HSE students, but also anybody interested in expanding their knowledge.
The new QS Graduate Employability Rankings reflects the relation between a university’s activities and graduate employment. HSE placed in 201+ group.
On November 15, 2016, the Faculty of Economic Sciences at HSE received a delegation from China's National Bureau of Statistics. At the business meeting, HSE was represented by professors from the Department of Statistics and Data Analysis: the head of department, V.S. Mkhitaryan; the head of the International Institute for Statistical Education, Ponomarenko A.N.; the academic director of the educational program "Economics and Statistics,” Sirotin V.P.; and professors from the department, Arkhipova M.Yu. and Kuchmaeva O.V.
The winners of the Yegor Gaidar Foundation were announced on November 17, and HSE staff were among those recognized in three nominations.

Doctoral schools provide an opportunity for international doctoral students to undertake part of their study or research at HSE. The university offers two types oftraineeships – research and study. The study stay involves taking courses from the HSE doctoral schools. This can be one, two, or more courses aimed at developing academic skills or at obtaining greater exposure to special core subjects.
Second-year student in the HSE/NES Programme in Economics, Maksim Vavulin, placed second in the FIDE World Youth Under 18 Chess Championship. The championship took place in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia from September 21st through October 5th.
