Founded in 1992, the HSE Faculty of Economics is the university’s oldest faculty. In the years since it was founded, it has gained a reputation as Russia’s leader in terms of higher economic education.
A fundamental education in modern economic theory and mathematics is combined with the study of applied disciplines, such as taxation, budget policies and processes, financial management and other related fields.

Professor of the Department of Higher Mathematics at the HSE Faculty of Economics, Alexander Belenky was acknowledged in 2012 to be one of the best teachers at the university.
Alexey Zakharov, Associate Professor in the department of Advanced Mathematics in the HSE Faculty of Economics, is a member of the Committee of the European Political Science Association - a professional community of specialists who apply a variety of different methods in their analysis of the field as it is understood today.
On October 1, 2012, a meeting on academic cooperation between the HSE and leading Chinese universities took place at the HSE.
The list of members of the Expert Council under the RF Government has been approved. Its 200 members include staff from the Higher School of Economics.
On May 21st 2011, Robert Aumann, Nobel laureate in economics and Professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, spoke at the HSE on ‘Rule Rationality vs. Act Rationality’. The lecture was organized by the NRU HSE together with the Embassy of Israel in Russia.

Filipp Bykov, lecturer at the HSE Faculty of Economics Department of Higher Mathematics, has been awarded a medal by the Russian Academy of Sciences.
In April a new all-university elective course on Science, Technology and Innovation: Analysis, Strategies and Policy will be launched at the HSE. It will be delivered in English by leading HSE international professors as well as some visiting experts. Dirk Meissner, Deputy Head of the HSE Research Laboratory for Science and Technology Studies, and one of the authors of the course, told us more about the course, its structure and specifics.
