What are the modern trends in economic education and how are they incorporated in HSE programmes? Why do economists need machine learning and artificial intelligence? Is it necessary to attend lectures and how can students get the most out of their bachelor's programme? How radical are the changes in economic laws that have occurred in recent years? These questions and many other topics were discussed by Sergey Pekarski, Dean of Faculty of Economic Sciences (FES), and interns of the Laboratory for Economic Journalism.

In an interview with the Head of the Analytical Center “BusinessDrom” Pavel Samiev, Head of the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences’ School of Finance, Professor Irina Ivashkovskaya spoke about where current students want to work, how to involve business representatives in educational activities, and what changes have recently taken place in financial education.

More than 450 students from more than 40 countries have graduated from 10 HSE Master's online programmes. To participate in the ceremony, graduates who received full-time higher education online were invited to the Moscow campus and met with classmates and teachers not online, but face-to-face.

The International Preparatory Year programme held its graduation ceremony in July. This academic year, 125 students from 50 countries were enrolled in the programme. They will continue their studies at Russian universities, most of them pursuing bachelor's and master's programmes at HSE University. The graduation was organised as a quest, where the students were able to demonstrate their achievements in learning the Russian language. Graduates from Ecuador, Syria, and Mexico shared their impressions with the HSE News Service, Deputy Director Polina Shanko talked about plans for the coming year, and mathematics teacher Vladimir Gordin gave his advice to future students.

Academic scholarships program for top students of the Master's Program Economics and Economic Policy extended for the 2023-2024 academic year. First-year students of the Behavioral Economics and Research Track at Master's program Economics and Economic Policy will begin receiving increased scholarship from the second semester based on their GPAs

Wenrui Zhang, from China, is a recent graduate of theMaster’s in Economics and Economic Policy at the HSE UniversityFaculty of Economic Sciences. Having successfully defended his master’s thesis on the impact of COVID-19 on the incomes of vulnerable groups, Wenrui has set his sights on publishing his research and enrolling in adoctoral programme at the university. The HSE News Service interviewed Wenrui about his achievements so far and his goals for the future, and also spoke to Prof.Elena Kotyrlo, his academic supervisor.

Jean-Francois Jabir is an assistant professor at the HSE University Department of Statistics and Data Analysis and a senior research fellow at the Laboratory of Stochastic Analysis and its Applications (LSA). In his interview, he talks about stochastic analysis and its applications, why he is still impressed by the training level and dedication of Russian students, and how to live in Moscow with a limited knowledge of Russian.

Students of the School of Finance took part in the Iseo Summer School, a school with Nobel laureates, which was held in a small town in Italy - in the province of Brescia. This year topic was: “The World After. Challenges Ahead for the Global Economy”. This summer school was organized by the I.S.E.O. and has been running since 2004.
