The Faculty of Economic Sciences is the largest faculty at HSE University and the very foundation from which the university's history began in 1992. Today, it is the premier educational and research division at HSE. An economist at HSE University has analysed possible trading strategies on the stock market and shown that investors can achieve higher returns if they determine the size of their trades based on the degree of intraday fluctuations in asset prices. When the key interest rate is high, the advantage of this strategy over a conventional one increases 4.7-fold. The study has been published in the journal Enterprise Development and Microfinance.
Economists from HSE University, together with colleagues from international universities, have analysed stock market movements over almost a century and proposed an investment strategy that could have delivered returns nearly twice as high as the market average. Their research suggests following a momentum strategy during periods of sustained market growth and switching to a value strategy after prolonged market declines. The study has been published in the Journal of Banking and Finance.
In the 2025/26 academic year, students graduated from 14 joint degree programmes—eight bachelor's and six master's programmes—delivered by HSE University in partnership with other universities across Russia and neighbouring countries at the campuses of those partner institutions. Admissions to these programmes are managed by the partner universities, and graduates receive diplomas from both the partner university and HSE University.
